My hair is an important form of expression for me.

I’ll be using this section to showcase styles on my 4b/c curls that aren’t often seen in mainstream media.

Here’s to styling and profiling :)

Two Strand Twistout Tutorial

Fall Styles

Style 1 :

Two strand twist with Marley hair, instead of cutting the hair like a lot of YouTube videos I watched, I kept the long length. To me it allows for more flexibility in styling. I kept these twists for 3 weeks which is pretty long for me. I’ll definitely be doing this style again.

Style 2 :

I started wearing head wraps to connect with my ancestors and I love it. For this style I folded the head wrap twice, then placed it at the back of my head and pulled it up to tie it at the front. I then took both pieces that were hanging, twisted each one and wrapped it around my head in the opposite direction. So I took the left piece, twisted it and wrapped it to the right, then tucked it under the base.

July Styles

I learned to do Passion Twists!

I thought this style would be hard but it was actually quite easy. I part my hair into 70 small sections, and secured those sections with rubber bands. Then I used a crochet hook to slide two small pieces pre-twisted passion twist hair under the rubber band, After that, I blended my own hair with the pre-twisted hair by twisting to strands all the way to the end. This style came out way better than expected.

JUNE STYLES

For the month of June I decided to try bangs! I naturally have bangs already, I’ve just never taken time out to manipulate them and wear them, instead of parting my hair.

To achieve this look I did a simple wash and go, then towel dried my hair. After towel drying I applied Shea Moisture Red Palm Oil & Cocoa Butter Leave in or Rinse-Out Conditioner w/Flaxseed and coconut to my hair. These are my normal routine products. Then I seperated the section out that I wanted to use for bangs. I used Aunt Jackie’s Elongating Faxseed gel on my bangs and finger separated it to my desired look.

I’m loving the look, hope you guys try it as well!

May Styles

For my May style I tried a new product for Wash day. I bought the Shea Moisture Red Palm Oil & Cocoa Butter Leave in or Rinse-Out Conditioner w/Flaxseed. And I LOVED it! If you can’t tell by now I love products with Flaxseed in it, so that pretty much instantly sold me on it. I paired the product with the Shea Moisture Red Palm Oil & Cocoa Butter Detangling Shampoo w/Flaxseed Oil because I have always wanted to try a detangling shampoo, and I used a detangling comb in the shower with the products per the instructions. Then I sat under a “shower cap” (yes, it’s a Kroger bag") for about an hour then I rinsed the conditioner. I definitely noticed an instant difference in definition and shape. I would recommend these products for those with thick coils like me, it made my hair easier to style this week for sure. I posted pictures of the products I tried out as well as my normal Ogx Cocunut Curls Shampoo and Conditioner.

April Styles

After taking my braids down I was really pleased with the growth. I stuck with simple low maintenance styles to help my hair bounce back from being braided down.

The main styles I did were a wash n’ go with no product and a wash n’ go with gel to define my curls. I loved the outcome, especially the definition.

To achieve the definition I parted my hair in five sections and I used the pink jar of Eco Styling gel and a little bit of Aunt Jackie’s Elongating Flaxseed Gel. I applied it to the sections, making sure not to get it on my scalp.

March Styles

I finally got braids again! Braids are my favorite protective style because of the ease of care mainly. This time I got black and a honey blond color mix and I loved it.

The process took about 8 hours and the braids lasted for over a month. I had 1.5 inches of hair growth when I took them down and my edges survived lol.

February styles

Since it’s still cold outside I’m not doing much to my hair. I cut my hair pretty recently so I’m wearing it in a wash and go style with minimal manipulation to give it a break from any products. I really loved the shorter style, it fits my face well and the maintenance is super easy.

JANUARY Styles

Considering how cold the winter is I like to do simple styles to protect my coils from the harsh weather. This is two braids pinned to the back that I wore for a week, then took down on Sunday and washed and conditioned my hair. I stick to this style quite a lot because it can be easily covered up with a hat, hoodie, or scarf on those cold winter nights.

December Styles

December was a big month for my hair. I took a leap and got a cute bob cut and pressed my hair. Although I was nervous of the outcome, I was so happy with how it turned out and even happier there was no heat damage. I went to Strands in Germantown and my stylist was Katrina, I highly recommend her.

November Styles

I’ve been trying a new hair method using gel versus creams because of my hair type. Thanks Tamika for the suggestion.

I split my hair into two sections and use a dime size of Aunt Jackie’s Elongating Flaxseed gel. Not only does it define my curls, it’s empowered me to try more small styles that are both cute and keep my hair off my forehead.

#AisforAfro

I did a crown style today. I’ve done this style before. It’s a easy go-to style and makes wrapping my hair with a scarf 🧣 super easy.

I used a spray bottle with warm water to make my hair easier to twist down, and I used a dime size of Aunt Jackie’s Elongating flaxseed gel on the middle and back for strayaways and brushed it down. I secured the twist with about 5 booby pins.

I definitely recommend this for someone wanting to try wrapping with a scarf or just wanting a easy style. Happy styling 😊

October Styles

I tried the Bobby pin style I’ve been seeing a lot lately, but with just 3 Bobby pins on each side.
Also, this style was accomplished on a wash n go. I did a middle part and added Bobby pins on each side. It was super easy
